Introduction:
- TACoS (The Artful Craft of Science) is a week-long summer camp for 5th and 6th graders. It includes chemistry, microbiology, art, and computer science; we do the computer science portion
- The camp is 5 days long, one activity/lesson for each day
Big changes from last year:
- New push for some intersection with chemistry or microbes
- Could be a vague connection (sensors, something, even just explanations of things)
- Could also focus on the art part
- The reason for this change is because we'd like to do projects that appeal to the sponsor
- A subset of participants will be in person, and a subset online, asynchronous (there shouldn't be any crossover, though. Each person will either be 100% one way or the other, with a couple that may switch in the middle)
- We could potentially offer a 4-hour block for online participants to call in, during in-person TACoS hours
- We should include the video and the written materials together in one place (as in, all on the website together)
TODO:
- Need to prepare kits for up to 80 participants
- Budget for materials is not huge. Aim for $20-$30/student. We have plenty of micro:bits (enough for 2-3 per kit).
- Create five 10-minute videos in mp4 format (one for each day)
- Attendees should walk away with a product (either something each day or a big something at the end of the week)
- Potential that students may walk away with nothing if we save it for the last day, may be better to offer things throughout the week
- Create written (online and printed) directions for activities
- DUE DATE: May 15 - get all deliverables to Mike and Andrea
Possible mix with GenCyber
TACoS and GenCyber are the same week (June 27-July 1). Can we infuse core CS concepts into some of the things GenCyber does?
